We will work to engage and consult with Indigenous communities throughout the lifecycle of offshore energy projects. We actively look for opportunities to effectively engage with Indigenous communities to encourage participation in processes that may impact them.
We have established internal processes that guide our Indigenous engagement and consultation when conducting our regulatory activities. In 2015, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the federal and provincial governments (as represented by Natural Resources Canada and the Nova Scotia Department of Energy) in which the governments can use and rely on, where appropriate, our existing practices to assist in discharging the Crown’s consultation and accommodation obligations.
